Risk-Based Design in Professional Development Seminar

Richmond, March 2013 — A full-day course on probabilistic methods entitled Predicting Reliability in Mechanical Design will be taught by Martin Fandrich, PhD, PEng, for the third consecutive year. The seminar, developed by Bannerman Consultants as part of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC) professional development program, gives techniques for calculating the probability of failure (and conversely reliability) as a means of engineering consistent safety levels.

The seminar also explores the inconsistencies and limitations of the traditional method of designing, using safety factors, and the benefits of understanding uncertainty. Focussing explicitly on limiting failure allows more freedom to design and innovate while safeguarding integrity. Simultaneously, previous experience can be leveraged into new domains.Registration information for the March 8 event can be found on the APEGBC website.
